We are an illustrious team of chemists, dedicated to teaching and learning chemistry. We deliver instructions in physical, Inorganic, and analytical organic chemistry at the U.G. Level (affiliated to C.U.) and pure chemistry and environmental science at the P.G. Level through Directorate of Distance Education, Vidyasagar University.
The term "Rasayana" in Sanskrit was derived from the term "Rasa" which meant extract from roots, stems and leaves of medicinal plants which were used as cure aids by ancient saints. Chemistry was therefore, usually confined to a part of Ayurveda and is as old a discipline, as the "Charaka Samhita" and the "Susruta Samhita" but has grown and expanded its horizon through the ages, particularly during the last century. This was a fascinating era which saw the development of atomic structure, spectroscopy, diffraction studies, computational methods and quant-urn chemistry.
We cordially invite learners who want to take up chemistry for their career.
Mission & Vision
Our department is a small one which commenced its journey during early 1950's. Since then a considerable number of successful students have emerged under the guidance of illustrious teachers like Nikhil Ranjan Sengupta, Kamal Kumar De, Asim Krishna Sinha and others.
The department follows the "Charaibeti" motto of our college; our vision therefore is progress. We will remain involved in our unstinted efforts towards teaching, training, motivating and inspiring our students throughout their tenure of study with us.
As with all departments of our college our development is also inhibited due to shortage of space. Never the less we have come across all barriers to initiate two Post Graduate courses, though through distance mode. We further aspire to offer Post Graduate courses through regular contact programme in near future. We also expect to imbibe a culture of active research in theoretical and experimental chemistry in near future.
Aims & Objective
1. Achievement of excellence in teaching and training chemistry. In our department we place maximum stress on regularity of classes and fruitfully proceedings therein. Practical classes offer vigorous hands on experience to our students. Apart from this teaching schedules are often accompanied by demonstrations to make learning enjoyable. We make every effort to render learning chemistry joyful experience.
2. Our immediate next task involves guiding our students for their examinations. Our students are provided with notes, references and even specimen copies from our end in order to equipped them to meet the examination standards. Our students are now subjected to more intense academic interactions in order to get accustomed to the newly introduced CBCS curriculum.
3. Our next task is to council our students while they choose their next step of their career. Students are encouraged and mentored to appear at competitive examinations for admission to post graduate courses in reputed national institutes of higher learning. In this context we haven or two successful students every year and we aspire to grow further.
4. Despite being a department basically meant for teaching we are motivated to research and exploration. Our teachers have an appreciable number of publications in peer reviewed journals and attempts are repeatedly made to infiltrate research awareness amongst our students also through regular seminars and webinars.
